James is a seasoned conservationist specializing in wildlife law enforcement, with formal training in animal behavior and nature conservation. He has spent nearly a decade working across Southern Africa, developing holistic, area-specific wildlife crime prevention strategies in close collaboration with local partners and authorities.
His work places strong emphasis on the role of field rangers, particularly their welfare, effectiveness, and management as frontline conservationists. With extensive experience in operations management, ranger training, crime scene investigation, ballistics recovery, and the use of SMART conservation software, James brings practical, field-tested expertise to strengthening wildlife crime prevention efforts. He has worked with organizations such as the Cheetah Conservation Fund, the International Anti-Poaching Foundation, and the Bumi Hills Anti-Poaching Unit, where he continues to serve as a technical advisor. James is a professional member of the Game Rangers’ Association of Africa, a founding member of the Universal Ranger Support Alliance (URSA), the Capacity Council Chair of the SMART Partnership and the founder and current chair of the World Commission on Protected Areas Wildlife Crime Prevention Specialist Group.
