Dr. Tobias Garstecki is Director for Protected Area Planning and Management at Re:wild. This involves facilitating the development of management strategies and plans, helping to design governance and management structures, and building the capacity of individuals and organizations involved in protected and conserved areas.

Tobias studied zoology at Free University Berlin and obtained his PhD from the University of Cologne. Before joining Re.wild, he worked with the British Antarctic Survey, the IUCN South Caucasus Office, and as a freelance consultant on protected areas planning, management and capacity development between 2009 and 2023.

Tobias is an active member of the World Commission on Protected Areas, where he co-leads a global Task Force on the effectiveness of protected areas, and of the Conservation Coaches Network Europe. He has also completed training on systemic consulting and organizational development. He enjoys supporting protected and conserved areas stewards, teams, organizations and networks to chart and probe their own course towards working more successfully, and with more fun.
