Designing with Nature: A Week of Learning through Permaculture

The Basic Permaculture Design Course was conducted to explore sustainable, nature-based solutions that promote environmental harmony and resilient communities. The seven-day training, organized by the Philippine Permaculture Association, offered a comprehensive introduction to permaculture design, a holistic approach to building sustainable human settlements inspired by patterns found in natural ecosystems.

The course combined lectures, discussions, group work, and hands-on activities. Core topics included Ethics, Design Principles, and Social Permaculture, creating a balanced blend of theory and practice.

Throughout the training, participants were encouraged to view nature not just as a backdrop, but as a partner in creating thriving ecosystems and communities. Creative hands-on tasks, such as pizza-making, foraging, and building with clay and wood, added depth and engagement to the learning process.

Thriving Together with Tamaraw Consortium remains committed to supporting practices that foster environmental sustainability, biodiversity protection, and community empowerment. The principles of permaculture align with the project’s goal of conserving both nature and culture, ensuring that people and ecosystems thrive together.
